Practice Dates, Dual Meets and Championship

Practice: Introductory practice for all (6&U 3:45-4:45PM) and any new to the team swimmers (4:45-5:45PM) on Thursday and Friday, May 13th and 14th.

Full team practice begins Monday, May 17th-June 4th 3:45-8:00PM

All practices are currently scheduled for the Sendero Springs Pool. Swimmers will be assigned a workout time by the coaches based on ability, age-group and workout efficiency. The coaches are challenged with providing excellent coaching for every individual but only have 4 hours to work with 240 swimmers. That is 60 swimmers per hour with 2 lanes per coach in an 8-lane pool. The coaches will attempt to be flexible to special situations as long as it does not compromise the best interests of the team as a whole.

Each practice has exceptions, meaning the coaches have moved some swimmers to a practice other than their age group.

W4: 6&U plus 7-8 girls  3:45-5:00PM                                                                                  W3: 9-12 Girls            4:45-6:00PM                                                                                   W2: 7-12 Boys           5:45-7:00PM                                                                                   W1: Senior workout     6:30-8:00PM

There will be a practice meet/time trials during regular practice time Thursday May 27th. The practice meet is for the parents to practice timing, computers, setup, ready bench, stroke judging, etc. The time trials will be for the swimmers to get preliminary times for initial entry in the first two dual meets.

Morning practices begin Monday, June 7th-July 16th 7:30AM - 12:00PM

W1: Senior workout       7:30AM - 9:00AM                                                                          W2: 7-12 Boys             8:45AM -10:00AM                                                                           W3: 9-12 Girls              9:45AM -11:00AM                                                                         W4: 6&U plus 7-8 girls  10:45AM -12:00PM

*USA/HS option starts June 8th 6:30AM -  7:30AM

*For High School and USA swimmers, 10 years and older, there will be a combined HS/USA swim team practice on Tuesday and Thursday mornings in the month of June and first week of July from 6:30-7:30 AM. There is also an Adult swimming program mondays and Wednesdays from 6:25-7:25AM. Sign up through bcmud.org Speed Training for the Adult program and with coach Christopher directly for the USS/HS program. Swimmers will then continue dryland with the Marlin team from 7:30-8:00AM and then get back in the water at their regular Marlin practice time.

If you need additional information send email to ckjeldsen@austin.rr.com.

Dual meets: We will continue the practice of alternating events for each swimmer for the first 4 dual meets. Meets 1 and 3 they will swim one set of events. Meets 2 and 4 they will swim the other set. This will allow each swimmer to participate in every event two times. At the 5th and last dual meet each swimmer is allowed to pick their own events.

There will be a team pep-rally replacing the after season awards banquet on July 14th.

The Championship meet:  Everyone on the team is expected to participate in this meet! This is our only competitive meet. The coaches will spend approximately 6 hours entering each swimmer in the events that will help the team attempt to win the championship.

The Invitational meet is for individuals who make a qualifying time. It will be held at the UT Swim Center on July 18th.

Coaching

4 Championships: 2010   2008 2007 and 2006

Christopher Kjeldsen

Having been with the Marlins in the parental volunteer positions of timer, stroke judge, coach liason to the board and board member for the 4 years prior to becoming head coach and now having completed my 5th year as a coach, I have had the unique perspective of observing the Marlin organization from both a volunteer and professional point of view. The very first thing that really stood out about this team was what I saw 71 meets ago. The tradition of swimming with tremendous heart. Add to that the fact that Marlin parents are well known for their hard work, friendliness and organization, and you have all the ingredients a good coaching staff needs to encourage athletes to become winners. And we have a very good (loyal, dedicated and cohesive) coaching staff.

So as we move the bar of excellence higher each year, I must admit to being humbled and truly blessed to have the opportunity to work with such an outstanding organization. I pray that I can continue the cycle of returning to this community the many blessings I have received as we turn winners into champions each summer. :-)

 Kassie Krusely

I am finishing up my third year of college at Southwestern University. I swam for the Marlins for 11 years, Lone Star Aquatics for 5 years, and for Round Rock High school all 4 years. I then went on to swim in college my freshmen year. This summer will be my fourth year coaching for the Marlins and I couldn't be more thrilled!

The Brushy Creek Marlins have been a part of my family for 14 years and I can't wait for another great summer!

Brock Gibson

I am currently finishing up my second year of college at Incarnate Word. I joined the Marlins the summer before my freshman year in high school and swam for the Marlins the following 4 summers because it was just TOO cool. I continued swimming for the Round Rock High School swim team for four years. I have been a coach for the Marlins for the past three summers (with 2, count em, "2" Divisional wins! ohh yeah) and it is just a blast. I'm really looking forward to another summer with THE TEAM!

I am a Kinesiology major + music minor, but more importantly I'm a proud member of the fighting Texas Aggie Class of 2012. A-A-A Whoop!!! I'm finishing off my sophomore year in good fashion and hope to keep that going through the upcoming years. I have been swimming for 11 years including 7 years with Lone Star Aquatics, 4 years with the McNeil Swim team and all 11 years with the Brushy Creek Marlins. This will be my third year coaching for the Marlins and I don't think I could be more excited for what's to come. Thanks and gig'em.

Teresa Azzarito

I am finishing up my first year of college at Texas State University. I am working towards my degree in nursing and hope to one day travel the world providing health care to the underprivileged and then continue on to work as an E.R. nurse. The Marlins have been a part of my life for the past 11 years, 10 of which I was a swimmer and this past year interning as a coach. I look forward to coaching this year and many more to come.
